WFHDWorking From Home Dads AKA What the Fecking* Hell do I Do

Do you want to view life as an adventure or a package holiday?

Do you thrive on uncertainty or crave certainty?

Are you growing resilience or succumbing to anxiety?

These are tough times for many MasterLeader Dads who are now forced to WFH every day and you may find this time particularly challenging as you are used to being ‘at the office’.

As Eckhart Tolle says in his book, ‘A New Earth’ (which he wrote in 2005), “Evolvement comes through living with uncertainty” and my goodness me, how those words ring even truer more today than ever before!

I wonder when you eventually emerge from those potential back to back online conference calls do you find that –

  • You are losing your temper more with your kids as you are literally not used to spending so much time with them whilst not on a holiday.
  • You are losing your temper more with your partner as you are literally not used to spending so much time with them whilst not a holiday
  • You are losing your temper more with your dog/cat as you are literally not used to spending so much time with them whilst not a holiday
  • You are losing your temper more with yourself as you are literally not used to spending so much time at home alone.

Here are 4 Resilient Building Mantras for you to use at this unprecedented time –

  1. This is an experiment for me and I am learning new ways of handling it”
  2. “This is an experiment for my child/children and they are learning new ways of handling it”
  3. “This is an experiment for my partner and she/he are learning new ways of handling it”
  4. My dog always loves me unconditionally and my cat doesn’t really care unless I stop feeding her/him”

Be kind to yourselves. The pressure may be on working from home and remember you can only do the best you can with the resources you have got. Practice taking some time out for yourself each day and repeat the above mantras to remain calm and non self-judgemental.

It’s not always going to be easy and #thistooshallpass, soon you will be back in the daily grind of office life and maybe even missing some of the family interruptions and new habits?!

Please share with me the ways in which you are dealing with being a WFHD, I’d love to hear from you.

*Fecking is an Irish word that my parents taught me – it is not considered swearing in our family
